Visiting Otavalo gives everyone a true insight into Ecuadorian culture and its people.  There are some impressive landscapes, such as the breathtaking views of the Imbabura mountain and its surrounding lakes.  We'll visit Cuicocha, well known for its crater situated in the middle of a lake.  We'll take a three or four hour-stroll around the lake if it takes your fancy!

    Itinerary

    Day 1: Quito-Otavalo market
We'll leave Quito bright and early and head to the Otavalo region where we will begin our hike at Hacienda Cusin, a restored 16th century hacienda.  We hike through the foothills of Volcano Imbabura and the crop fields belonging to the area's indigenous peoples. After lunch, we'll visit the popular Otavalo Crafts Market, the largest and most famous outdoor market in South America. Otavaleños are famous for their weavings which include tapestries, sweaters, blankets, ponchos, scarves, slippers, bags and hammocks.  You will also find paintings, ceramics and jewellery. We'll then go onto visit the beautiful Hacienda Pinsaqui where you will enjoy the finest Ecuadorian cuisine and a relaxing evening next to an inviting open log-wood fire. (L,D)

    Day 2: Cuicocha
After breakfast we'll leave the hacienda to visit Cuicocha Lake. Cuicocha is a dormant crater lake located in the Western Cordillera. We'll hike around the sapphire-blue lake on the edge of Volcano Cotacachi where you can enjoy amazing views of Imbabura, Cayambe and Cotacachi. In the afternoon we'll drive back to Quito. (B,L)
